There are some mental habits that can tremendously impact your life — some can improve it, by bringing you joy and freedom, while others can quite worsen it, by making you feel sad and miserable.
Here I would like to present the 7 core mental habits of unhappy people that, if adopted, might create a hell out of your life, and which you should consider eliminating if you desire to live more happily, free, and at peace with yourself and those around you.
1.They blame everyone except themselves
Instead of taking responsibility and action in order to create a better life for themselves, unhappy people continually criticize others, putting all responsibility on their shoulders, and blaming them for anything that goes wrong with their life.
2. They complain instead of taking action
Unhappy people like to complain. They like to complain a lot. In fact, they do almost nothing else except complaining. They are continually focused on how big their problems are instead of trying to find ways to overcome them.
3. They see themselves as victims of their destiny
We can choose to be either creators or victims, and unhappy people always choose the latter. They believe that they don’t have what it takes to make a positive difference in their lives, so they give up trying to achieve what they deep down desire, and they end up filled with regrets and anguish.
4. They are wasting the present for the future or the past
The present moment is the only moment that truly is. The past has gone, the future is yet to come, and the here and now is when we can truly live, savoring each and every moment life brings us on our way. Unhappy people always worry about the future and never let go of their emotional attachment to their past experiences.
5. They are trapped in the game of competition
Human beings are deeply social beings and derive immense joy from sharing and by cooperating with their fellow humans. Those who are unhappy don’t understand this though, and they are immersed in competition, always trying to surpass others in order to feel better about themselves. The only thing they achieve though is to be miserable and stressed.
6. They find it extremely difficult to trust people
We all need friendship and love in our lives to be happy, but in order to form friendly, intimate relationships one needs to have an open heart and trust people. Unhappy people are insecure — they don’t trust others out of fear that they might be hurt or disappointed. Hence they end up being lonely in a world that they feel is cold and hostile.
7. They are seeking permission from others
Freedom is everyone’s birthright, but due to the way we’ve been brought up many of us have been conditioned to believe that we need to ask for the permission of authority before we can do something we desire. This is especially the case with unhappy people, who never think for themselves or act on their own but are following a predetermined path created by others, trying their best to live up to others’ expectations, which only makes them experience immense suffering.
